How to play, tips & FAQ

Expert Minesweeper: 30×16, 99 mines

The full-size classic and the benchmark for fast times. Read every number — it counts the mines touching that square — open what you can prove is safe, flag what you can prove is a mine, and clear all 480 squares without detonating one. Your first click is always safe.

Going fast on Expert

Speed on Expert comes from chording and pattern recognition, not careful clicking. Learn the staples — a 1-2-1 along a wall puts mines under the 1s; 1-2-2-1 puts them under the 2s — and chord the instant a number's flags match its count. Work the open frontier rather than hunting in fresh territory, and only guess when logic genuinely runs out (prefer the guess that touches the most numbers).

Frequently asked questions

What is Expert Minesweeper?

The largest classic board: 30 columns by 16 rows with 99 mines — about a 20% mine density. It rewards fast, confident pattern reading and is the standard benchmark for serious Minesweeper times.

Is my first click safe on Expert?

Always. Mines are placed after your first click, excluding that square and its neighbours, so you open into a safe area every game — and the same board can be replayed by its number.

How do I flag and chord on a big board?

Right-click (or long-press, or the Flag-mode button) to flag a mine. Tap a revealed number that already has its full count of flags to "chord" — opening all its other neighbours at once, the key to fast Expert clears.
